You can read all about WHY we had to switch up our bedroom here, but now I want to show you HOW we did it!
The first decision we had to make was about the BED. Rachael was taking her super comfy pillow-top back, and we had our not-so-comfy mattress in our guest room. (Side note: there have only been two times in our marriage so far that we have made a 'wrong' purchase. The first was our Highlander - we love the car but WAY overpaid for it. Second was this mattress - we went way too firm and again, overpaid.) So you can imagine we weren't too excited about sleeping on "our mattress" again. We contemplated buying a new one to increase our own comfort and keep one in the guest room but decided it wasn't necessary - we can get a mattress topper for much cheaper (which I did this weekend) and we don't have that many guests to necessitate having a guest bed. Lastly, we continue to struggle with what kind of bed we want - sleigh, antique, etc. so since this isn't our permanent house we decided to push that decision back a little bit longer and instead made a headboard ourselves!
At first David was really intimidated by this project, until he realized how cheap (about $50) and easy/manly this project could be. I followed this tutorial from YoungHouseLove to help us out and then we spent one evening making it. We decided to make a more neutral headboard (tan linen) that would match this bedding but could be used anywhere in the future. So since my meticulous husband likes to make sure we are covering all of our bases, the longest part of this project was the time (about 3 hours) spent at Jo-Anns Fabrics and Lowes (mulitple trips to both) to pick out the materials. One funny story about Jo-Anns: We don't normally buy fabric and so our brain kept having to switch between feet and yards. We needed 6 feet of fabric for our project, so at $10.99 a yard we at first thought it was going to cost us about $65 just for the fabric! We even decided to switch to a cheaper fabric that we didn't love to save some money. Literally, right before they started cutting it I realized our mathematical mistake and yelled in Jo-Anns, 'WAIT! I mean 2 yards!' and so we quickly switched it out for the nicer, more expensive fabric. We felt so dumb but much happier with our fabric and its price!!

The next morning, after we stapled the fabric to the board and David attached the hooks to hang the board. We hung it just like a picture and then pushed the bed up against it.
Here is the finished project! (Sorry the pillows are so crooked) It was super easy, cheap and we made it ourselves. And to use my favorite word, it feels luxurious!!
In addition to the bed, we needed a DRESSER for David to put his clothes in! We have been searching for one for weeks, mainly at our favorite furniture store Nadeau, to the point that they know us by name! We were deciding between three potential dressers and finally chose this one because it is such a unique peice and could be used in an entry hall or somewhere else in a future home.
Can you see the intricate design? It was a good bit smaller than David's previous dresser but he has made it work. I love it!
We are still on the hunt for the perfect nightstands but for now are enjoying the
new-ness of the room! I also just bought a 2-inch memory foam topper this weekend that have made the bed much more bearable. While we were so thankful for Rachael loaning us her furniture, her style is a bit more modern than ours. So these recent projects have really forced us to figure out our style and how to find things on a budget.
